Proposed spine road should allow through traffic. Improvements to the height and width of Coldhams Lane bridge and the provision of a cycle track should be a requirement before any development is allowed on the site.
The spine Road should allow through traffic between Coldhams Lane and the roundabout at Airport Way/Gazelle Way to relieve the current overloaded road network around the traffic lights at St Andrews church and the use of Church End as a rat run for which it is completely unsuitable. Without such provision the additional houses can only add to the problem which is already set to be aggravated by other proposals to develop land on the former tip site to the rear of the Orchard Estate.
I have commented elsewhere on the need for improvements to the highway under Coldhams Lane Lane bridge and the provision of a cycle track along Coldhams Lane itself. The existing bridge is a barrier to effective transport arrangements preventing the use of double decker buses and access by other tall vehicles. With the current proposals preventing through traffic on the proposed spine road tall vehicles seeking to access the western half of the site will have to travel via Airport Way, Cherry Hinton Road and the Coldhams Lane traffic lights to gain access again adding to the existing congestion.
