Waterbeach - Designation of Neighbourhood Area - June 2015

Representation Summary:

It's a great idea to have a Waterbeach Neighbourhood Plan that includes the old barracks site and Denny Abbey. It's important that Waterbeach occupants have a say in how their village is developed and changed. This is a very special village with a strong community spirit and any developments need to support and enhance the community. We must not become a soulless place with no vision.

With plans to expand Waterbeach massively we need a transparent open approach and ability to incorporate all villager's needs and concerns on changes that have the potential to have a positive impact or a very strong long-term negative impact if not dealt with properly.

I am very concerned that without this Plan we are at strong risk of losing a very happy village, that we chose for its unique properties where we want our children to grow up.

I think it is a great idea to have a Waterbeach Neighbourhood Plan, particularly as it includes the old barracks site and Denny Abbey. I think it is very important that Waterbeach occupants are empowered to have a say in how their village is developed and changed. This is a very special village which works very well, with a strong community spirit as evidenced by the countless people that volunteer for clubs and societies, and village fetes and activities and thriving independent shops and pubs. If this village is to continue being a successful and happy place to live then any developments needs to support and enhance these features of community, independent shops and with adequate infrastructure to cope (moving railway, extension to train carriages, road and bus and bike access, schools, health centres, water and sewerage, drainage, independent shops, community centres etc). We must not become a soulless place with no vision.

In view of the plans to expand Waterbeach massively under draft planning documents being put forward by South Cambridgeshire, and the continuing housing developments across the village, there needs to be a very transparent and open approach and ability to incorporate all villagers needs and concerns with regards to all developments and the Neighbourhood Plan should ensure there is cohesiveness and a chance to do so. I feel very left out of consultations on what is projected to happen at this village. And these are not small changes. They hve the potential to have a positive impact or a very strong long-term negative impact if not dealt with properly.

I am very concerned that without this Plan, and without the extent of the plan including the Barraacks and Denny Abbey that we are at strong risk of loosing a very happy village, a village that we chose for its unique properties where we want our children to grow up.

Please keep me updated on all developments related to this Neighbourhood plan and development of the Barracks site and above. I very much want to be part of the consultation process
