Climate change
Representation ID: 59062
Received: 13/12/2021
Respondent: Cambridge Sustainable Food CIC
We need resilient food systems that are fit for a changing climate. We support regenerative and agro ecological farming and we prioritise local, seasonal food that is good for the planet. Our local plan should reflect this need through,
• designating space for small scale vegetable and fruit growing, either as a tenanted farmer, community supported agriculture or on the model of CoFarm
• provision of allotments, a community garden and orchard
• A market place and encouragement for local growers to have an outlet for their produce in order to support access to local fresh produce

We believe biodiversity should be integrated into the whole landscape. From public parks, verges, gardens and farms, opportunities for biodiversity should be included in all new developments, for example
• bee-friendly plantings,
• wild flower meadows,
• tree planting and space for woodland
• fruit trees in public spaces
• Local composting facilities
• Space for wetlands – ponds, lakes and rivers

Food is an essential part of family and community life. Opportunities for growing and sharing food enhance the growth and cohesiveness of a local community and promote wellbeing, equality and resilience. We believe that great places are places that are designed and built for people and food and all great places promote good food spaces that are good for people and good for the planet. Provision in any new development should also include
• Space for start up food businesses that enhance local choice, utilise local produce and provide jobs and training
