H/DC: Dwellings in the countryside
Representation ID: 56656
Received: 25/11/2021
Respondent: Gamlingay Parish Council
Concern expressed about significant further development of annex accommodation seperate to main dwellings which have been permitted in the open countryside. Permission should be refused for stand alone annex accommodation in the countryside. Annexes should be connected to the main dwelling house-to prevent additional units of accommodation being created in the open countryside. A significant number of applications (with various descriptions) are currently occurring here, the current plan does not limit or control/sprawl of associated buildings into open countryside.

Support local transport hubs to ensure smaller vehicles undertake local deliveries. Particularly important in villages which have many heritage assets, conservation areas and narrow streets.

We propose that a Strategic Cycle link is required between Bedford and Cambridge. This link already exists between Bedford and Sandy, and funding has been secured that the link reaches Potton (Central Beds). The proposal in Gamlingay Neighbourhood Plan (SUSTRANS report) suggests this route continues along the B1040 to Gamlingay and Waresley, and follows Waresley Road to Great Gransden-Caxton-Cambourne.

There is a proposal for the Camborurne to Cambridge section already. We strongly urge you to consider including this route within the emerging plan. It will improve the connectivity between villages and access to the transport hub of Cambourne for all residents west and south of Cambourne. Gamlingay parish Council is consulting with local parish councils on the matter and Potton Town Council.

1. Neighbourhood plans only mentioned 6 times. Should we be positioning the plan to take greater account of lots more neighbourhood plans?

2. Area 8 (P172). The policy misses out half of the Gamlingay ward which will create problems. It also excludes the most significant protected green sites at The Heath and The Cinques. There is scope for some excellent cross border projects enhancing the Acid Heath which stretches to the west to Potton and Sandy. (Gamlingay is part of The Greensand Ridge which has funding for enhancement work as part of Greensand Country).
3. Gamlingay is in the River Ivel catchment but there is only mention of the Cambridge.
