Question 11: Are there any particular land uses that should be accommodated in the North East Cambridge area?
Representation ID: 33796

Respondent: Trinity College

It is difficult to say at this time what ancillary uses should be included within the area. The AAP is set to undergo major change through, in particular, redevelopment and transport infrastructure. There should be a policy context formed that allows for flexibility for a wide range of supporting uses to come forward; but a policy basis that any such development has to present how it supports the objectives of the AAP area.

The policy agenda around Health and Wellbeing is still relatively new and is evolving. The aspiration for a healthy place is correct, but the policy should be more flexible to be able to respond to an evolving area of planning policy and not be absolute against a current policy.

Question 16: Should the AAP include any or a combination of the options below to improve pedestrian and cycling connectivity through the site and to the surrounding area?

Any connectivity is a positive step, whether this be connecting to jobs-homes-green space- transport.
The priority should be the east-west movements to connect the Railway Station west to CSP, CRC and the wider community to increase the use of the train. The priority should be for cycle and pedestrian connectivity, but with allowance for the inevitable introduction of autonomous vehicles.
Furthermore, the east-west movement will connect CSP with the regeneration area and create a single place where people that live in North East Cambridge can easily work in North East Cambridge.

Question 18: Which of the following options would best improve connectivity across Milton Road between Cambridge North Station and Cambridge Science Park?
Representation ID: 33803
Received: 25/03/2019
Respondent: Trinity College
Agent: Bidwells
It is difficult to select a preferred option without the detailed implications of each; however, the ultimate choice should be selected on the benefits it offers to the ease, convenience and safety of the pedestrian and cyclist, along with the attractiveness of those routes.
It must be recognised, in the balance, that the Milton Road access into CSP is its principal vehicle access. Even with the priority focus being on sustainable transport there will also be a role for car and larger vehicles; perhaps even as autonomous vehicles in the future. A 'Milton Road solution' will need to allow for a Milton Road CSP access.

Yes, the legibility to this part of Cambridge is weak. Development could bring about a major and positive chance to this northern gateway entrance into Cambridge. It can proudly represent the Science and Technology work undertaken for some 50 years in this part of the District. A more legible place will also encourage people to use the public transport available.
